     Primarily a loner, Charley Parkhurst was a stage coach driver who drove for a variety of stage coach lines in California in the 1850's and 60's

     Like most stage coach drivers, Charley Parkhurst chewed tobacco, drank a fair amount and gambled a bit  

     By 1870 Charley Parkhurst was a retired stage coach driver living a quiet life 

     It was not until friends found Charley Parkhurst dead in bed, that they realized that Charley Parkhurst was a woman
