Pat Garrett

Born: June 5, 1850 in Alabama

Died: February 28, 1908

     Pat Garrett was a Buffalo hunter in Kansas.   Pat Garrett rode as a cowhand in Texas.    Bartender Pat Garrett served drinks at the Beaver Smith's saloon at Fort Sumner, New Mexico

     Beaver Smith's saloon was where Pat Garrett developed the friendship of William Bonney better known as Billy the Kid

     Pat Garrett was elected to the post of sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico in the fall of 1880.   Pat Garrett 's niche in history was reserved with the tracking down and apprehending of Billy the Kid at Stinking Springs.   Pat Garrett later killing Billy the Kid on July 13, 1881 at Pete Maxwell's ranch

    During the 1880's Pat Garrett worked for the large LS ranch in west Texas as a cattle gunman during the attempted extinction of rustling in the area.     Latter on Pat Garrett became a captain of the Texas Rangers.    Pat Garrett received appointment to customs collector during Teddy Roosevelt's presidency

    When Pat Garrett 's New Mexico ranch failed his purpose in life was destroyed.   Pat Garrett became a regular at the saloons. Controversy still exists over whether it was a conspiracy with assassins bullet that killed Pat Garrett or an irate neighbor who was subleasing Pat Garrett 's land
