    John Fremont was a professional explorer, surveyor, military officer and a successful politician

    John Fremont is best remembered for his exploration of the Pacific Northwest especially of Oregon and the Sierra Nevada

    The Literary skills of  John Fremont 's wife accounted for the nation's intense interest of his explorations

      John Fremont One of California's first senators, he attempted to run for the presidency on the Republican ticket but lost to James Buchanan
 

   John Fremont fought in the Civil War. 1878 to 1883 he was the governor of the Arizona Territory. In 1890, three months before John Fremont died, he received the rank of major general of the Army by an act of Congress
